Utilities
City government and private venders provide electric, water, sewer, fuel oil, and propane gas services to residences and businesses.
The City of Petersburg owns and operates the electric utility. The primary source of energy is the 20-megawatt Tyee Hydroelectric Power Project, which serves both Petersburg and Wrangell. Tyee presently has surplus capacity available to serve Petersburg’s future expansion, and the City is actively pursing new sources of hydro power.
